Lifting, Twin, 50m, steel girder bridges, Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, December 2023

Twin 50m long steel girder bridges were installed over Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road using a highly specialized self-propelled modular transporter

The steel girders were assembled off-line on-site, and carefully moved along Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and lifted into place allowing crews to safely and precisely install the steel bridge sections within the restricted space of the road underpass

Why adopt model based design?
Less risk … less RFI’s … less rework … less time

This bridge project highlights and showcases the added value and benefit that comes from providing more detail within our design models

all the steelwork connections for the steel bridge and adjoining screen and walkway structures were modelled in 3d

providing more detail in our models helps the design team resolve any congestion or design issues before handover to the construction and fabrication teams to do their stuff …
improving communication with the supply chain leading to more certainty, less RFI’s, less rework, and a reduction in the time required for shop detailing and review

as always … the proof is in the pudding …
with the end result speaking for itself

these works forming part of the Webb Street level crossing removal project which also include an elevated rail viaduct over Webb St and a new Narre Warren Station being delivered by the Western Program Alliance

really proud of the efforts of the team to embrace new ways of working to deliver a better outcome for our projects

the Western Program Alliance is a joint venture between McConnell Dowell, Arup and Mott Macdonald, LXRP, MTM, and VLine, with architectural and urban design by DCM and Hassell’s.

Congratulations and well done to all involved
